A spline is a vital component in sling patio or pool furniture, awnings, or RV slide-out covers. It is a long, rounded, flexible piece of material that inserts into the loop sewn on each side of the fabric sling to securely attach it across the rails.

When the spline is cut, it is known as a sling rod, which is then inserted into the sling pocket to prevent the sling from pulling out of the sling rail. The sizing of the spline is crucial; it must be large enough to stay in place yet not too big for easy installation in the rail ends.
